Verse of the Day
Isaiah 57:5
Reflections On The Scripture: This passage from the scriptures can be seen as a plea for us to reflect upon where our true devotion lies. It is a vivid call against allowing anything else but God to take precedence in our hearts. When we focus too much on material possessions (the idols), we take our hearts away from the ultimate source of peace, love and fulfilness God himself. Moreover, the analogy of "slaying the children in the valleys" can underscore the devastating effects of misguided devotion. We may not be physically hurting anyone, but when we are consumed by ego, pride, greed—the very values that are antithetical to the teachings of the Lord—we run the risk of spiritually and morally compromising those who look up to us, who depend on us for guidance. Remember, where your heart is, there your treasure will be also. Let our treasure be in the kingdom of God, not in the empty allure of worldly idols.
