Understanding the Basics of Christianity and Building a Devotional Life
When learning, teachers usually introduce the fundamental elements or concepts before demonstrating how to use them to acquire skills. The same is true with practicing faith! Keep reading to learn the basic concepts of Christianity and how you can use them to build a devotional life.
Why is Devotion Important in Christianity?
Dedicating your life to your faith may seem challenging, but it comes with a lot of advantages. Let’s look at the different benefits of staying devoted as a Christian.
You Learn More About God
Being born with original sin automatically builds a barrier between you and God. But baptism, as the first profession of faith, is the first act of getting to know God. No matter how often we sin, God never stops wanting to be closer to us. He is waiting for us to ask for repentance and strive to be like Him.
You Understand the Bible Better
Being devoted and inspired helps you better understand God’s Word. The Bible is open to many interpretations. However, there is only one truth. And God reveals this truth to us when we’re passionate about our faith. It will take time and perseverance to execute a devotional life, but it’s worth it.
You Start Finding Inner Peace
A devotional life is also beneficial to your spiritual wellness. Once you build a solid and unbreakable bond with God, you start feeling happy, content, and peaceful about your life. Receiving God’s grace also helps you realize that your mind, body, and spirit harmoniously work.
Even during the most challenging situations, a devoted person knows how to find peace and let go. Everything may not be under control, but they know how to reach that state of calm when needed.
The Basics of Christianity
The first step to building a devotional life is knowing Christianity’s basics. In essence, this belief system is based on seven elements.
The Holy Trinity (God the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit)
The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is an exclusive Christian belief that there is one God in three images: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Think of it as water, which comes in various forms. It can be in liquid, ice, or mist form. However, other beliefs do not exercise this belief.
God the Father is mainly seen in the Old Testament. He is all-knowing and devoted to His people. He also promises them eternal life and saving from sin through the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
At first, God chose Abraham to save the nation. But people disobeyed Him. So he sent Jesus Christ, or God the Son. Jesus is known as Savior, Redeemer, and Messiah. He sorrowed and perished on the cross to rescue humanity from sins.
For most Christian denominations, the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is also eternal like the other persons of God. He may not have an exact image, but He has a will, emotion, and mind. The Holy Spirit is present in your life as soon as you become a devoted follower of Christ.
Bible
The Bible is a sacred collection of books that contain God’s word. It is divided into two parts: The Old Testament and The New Testament.
The Old Testament includes books of the Jewish faith before Jesus Christ was sent on Earth. The New Testament contains books about the life of Jesus Christ during and after He was sent here on Earth.
Prayer
Prayer is the correct term for communication between God and man. Many people think we only speak to God during prayer. But God also speaks to us. Praying helps us remember our two-way spiritual connection with God.
It’s also crucial to recall that prayer can be done personally and as a community. You can worship, ask for forgiveness, and thank God with people who go to your church.
Grace
Grace is the blessing or favor provided by God to our lives. Through grace, we are saved by Jesus. It is also through grace that we are forgiven.
Community
Faith is both personal and communal. Faith-based communities guarantee you’re not alone in expressing your love for God. They will mourn, celebrate, and pray with you.
