15 Best Volunteer Experiences for Christians

Volunteer work is crucial in Christian life because we are all called to share God’s love actively. It can include hosting fundraisers, offering church transportation, or preparing care packages. Take a look at these 15 volunteering activities you can try as a Christian.

What Does the Bible Say About Volunteering?

Opportunities for volunteer work can instantly turn spiritual if done in God’s name. That’s because God loves and cares for people in need. In fact, Isaiah 58:10 says, “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your gloom will be as the noonday.”

God also rewards people who dedicate their lives to serving others. According to Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive an inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

Best Volunteer Experiences for Christians

Here are some volunteer experiences every Christian should try.

Carnival Volunteer

Volunteering at a Christian carnival or festival is an excellent opportunity to get involved in these fun events. Learn how artistry and entertainment meet faith and spirituality. You can be assigned to photography, marketing, or budget planning. You can also coordinate with bands, singers, and other important people.

Teach People How to Serve the Church

Another way to volunteer as a Christian is to teach people how to serve the Church. If you have excellent public speaking skills, teach them the benefits you will receive from service to others. Provide learning activities that will instill a culture of service among the members.

Church Transportation

One gift you can offer the Church is to provide transportation for guests and equipment using your vehicle. You may also be responsible for distributing goods and donations to different locations.

Adopt a Grandfriend

Senior citizens are a vulnerable group in the community who deserve care and love. Register to join events like Adopt-a-Grandfriend or Adopt-a-Grandparent to help bring a sense of comfort to seniors. Spend the day making conversations, hanging out, and giving gifts.

Organize Holiday Military Care Packages

Our troops do a lot for our country both at home and overseas. Sending them care packages during the holidays will help make them feel special. Talk to Church members about this project, and start shopping for items the recipients will appreciate.

Set Up a Social Media Campaign

Social media is an excellent way to connect with your loved ones through faith. Some ideas for social media posts include quoting your priest or pastor, asking questions about faith, and creating polls. Make sure to keep discussions lighthearted, sacred, and interactive.

Be a Church Usher

If you enjoy providing safety and comfort to your fellow church members, maybe it’s time to try being an usher. An usher provides directions to seats, restrooms, and other facilities in the church. You can also help provide a comfortable temperature in the facility.

Help Cook Meals at a Shelter

Love cooking? Start volunteering to cook meals at your local shelter. Use the right ingredients that people will find yummy, safe, and healthy. The staff can recommend what the people would enjoy most.

Easter Egg Hunt Stuffer Volunteer

Celebrate Jesus rising from the dead through an Easter egg hunt. Plan the special giveaways, such as a family-friendly DVD, a box of candies, toys, balls, and more. Write them on pieces of paper, then stuff them in the easter eggs.

Choir and Worship Team

If you’ve got the voice, volunteer to be part of the church choir. Learn new worship songs, show up at rehearsals, and sing your heart out to the Lord during worship sessions.

Organize a Free Nutrition Awareness Campaign

Help individuals in your community reevaluate their health needs and start practicing healthy eating habits. You can do it through a poster-making contest, food donation, or fitness event.

Pet Therapy Volunteer

Are you a dog owner? Be compassionate and start volunteering with a dog therapy program. Therapy dogs are well-trained animals that can encourage, relieve, and comfort people in need.

Youth Ministry

If you are 12-30 years old, you’ll benefit from being part of the youth ministry. Youth ministries aim to engage young people to worship, volunteer, and be part of other religious activities.

Volunteer at an Animal Shelter

Dogs and cats are God’s creatures, too. Start volunteering at your local animal shelter by adopting, fostering, or donating.

Collect and Donate

There are many collect-and-donate ideas you can try. Start with small items like school supplies, hygiene products, or grocery coupons. Donate these goods to those in need.

These fifteen volunteer experiences will help you overcome spiritual indifference and strengthen your faith in God. What other charitable opportunities do you want to try?
