Verse of the Day

Jeremiah 24:3
Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten, they are so evil.
Reflections On The Scripture: This scripture reminds us of the clarity and distinctiveness in our spiritual journey. Just like Jeremiah, God is asking us, "What do you see?" Are we able to discern the good from the evil, the edible from the inedible? More than ever, we must cultivate the spiritual sensitivity to distinguish what nurtures our souls from what can harm them. The fruits of our lives mirror our spiritual health. The 'good figs' represent the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Conversely, the 'evil figs' symbolize the works of the flesh which we are admonished to forsake. This passage serves as a reminder for us to continually seek God's wisdom and guidance to be able to choose rightly and bear good fruits. We must strive to be like the good figs: wholesome, fruitful, and nourishing to those around us, rather than the evil, unedible figs which are unfruitful and harmful. Life is a series of choices and every choice leads to certain consequences. With God's guidance, our choices can lead to a richer, more fulfilling, and spiritually fruitful life. So, let's always appeal to God to lead our ways as we strive to distinguish and choose the good over evil.
