Verse of the Day

Genesis 47:19
Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.
Reflections On The Scripture: Within this scripture, we are presented with the inevitability of human dependence, an unspoken plea for life in exchange for servitude. In a desperate situation, the subjects choose to serve Pharaoh, to survive and prevent the land from becoming desolate. This can reveal an important life lesson for us. In times of our own desperation, we too might feel as if we have to trade our freedom for survival. However, God doesn’t require us to be servants in despair, steeped in barren landscapes of hopelessness. Rather, He lovingly reminds us of how, through His grace and provision, we are granted an abundant life. Our dependence should not be on earthly kings or worldly systems, but firmly rooted in our relationship with our Heavenly Father. By trusting Him, we will find our survival and prosperity, not in servitude, but in spiritual freedom and fruitful lands of His divine purpose.
