But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
Reflections On The Scripture: This passage from Acts reminds us that no man, no matter how great he may seem, should ever take the glory that is intended for God. Simon the Sorcerer was known by many and celebrated for his abilities, but the recognition he received should have been given to the Lord. The simple lesson here is that we should be wary of giving too much credit to worldly achievements and remember that all things come from God. We must guard our hearts against the temptation of idolizing human figures, and instead continue steadfast in our admiration and worship of the Lord. All gifts, talents, and possessions we enjoy are blessings from Him. When we remember this, we maintain a humbleness that allows His light to shine brightest, and stay grounded on the path He has ordained for us.
