Like any family, the Rehoboth Baptist Church members have different backgrounds, perspectives, and ways of doing things. And, of course, they love and respect one another and celebrate individual uniqueness as any family would. On Sundays, you’ll see people dressed to the nines, and maybe even a hat or two; you’ll also see others in blue jeans and maybe even shorts. You are allowed to dress nicely and comfortably; they believe it’s hard to worship in uncomfortable clothing.

In the same way that the congregation’s musical tastes are varied, so are their worship styles. Hymns, gospel, contemporary praise, and even southern gospel can all be heard at Rehoboth. Each rendition is outstanding and heartfelt. With these, you can enjoy many worship styles you may not have encountered before. You might visit on a day when they don’t only sing in English but also in Spanish, Russian, French, Amharic, Swahili, and whatever other languages make up the hearts of their church family.

Preschool and kindergarten-aged kids are welcome to attend lessons and use the nursery during the morning service. Children older than first graders will enjoy attending the service with their families.

The History of Rehoboth Baptist Church

The congregation of Indian Creek Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia, felt moved by God to create a new mission church in 1854 when talk of a war between the states was rife. So, just northeast of Decatur, Georgia, they settled in the small town to start a church with ten families. In August of that year, at the J. B. Johns Schoolhouse, the congregation officially met as Rehoboth Baptist Church.

After a sermon by the Reverend S. B. Churchill, the Reverends Churchill, Samuel Bryant, William H. Roberts, and James H. Weaver formally established the presbytery and welcomed its first members. There was a mass conversion to the church that day, with 12 new members. After formally greeting every newcomer, the church’s bylaws were read and adopted, and the congregation was officially formed. After some pleasant company and parting words, they went their own ways for the night. Services for a new beginning began the following day.

When the revival services finally began, one night quickly led to the next. Daily, the Lord’s Spirit was at work in mighty ways. Because of this, the revival lasted for over three weeks and included two baptismal services at which twenty-one persons publicly expressed their faith in Christ. Of the new believers, two were enslaved. One of these was among the four who wrote in to join the church. Rehoboth welcomed everyone, regardless of where they came from and regardless of the national instability.

The Rehoboth Church did right by Genesis chapter 26, which inspired its name. Twice in the Valley of Gerar, herdsmen argued with Isaac over who had the right to use the water. Peace was ultimately made following the drilling of the third well that Isaac named Rehoboth, adding, “For now the Lord has provided room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the Land.” Just as Isaac discovered a place of tranquillity and spacious areas for his family, there would be room for everyone at Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Rehoboth quickly grew to 36 members in its first month, outnumbering its space in the J. B. Johns Schoolhouse. The initial church structure was erected and dedicated by Christmas 1854 for a total cost of $119.

Rehoboth’s ministry center has been on Lawrenceville Hwy. since the church first opened, and as it has expanded, four other churches have been constructed nearby to house the congregation. Its ministries have spread all over the world thanks to the efforts of its pastors and congregants.

In their role as a church that demonstrates and proclaims the gospel of Jesus Christ, they have laid the groundwork for Rehoboth’s continued growth and prosperity in the years to come. Because of Atlanta’s rapid expansion, its neighborhood now includes people from all over the world. Who is Rehoboth Baptist Church’s Pastor?

Rehoboth Baptist Church has had Pastor Troy as its main pastor since 2012. Rehoboth was experiencing serious financial difficulties and a decline in membership at the time. During Pastor Troy’s ministry, God has blessed His church, and Rehoboth is once again a vibrant and thriving community.

He is devoted to his wife and children and is married to his best friend, Tina. They have three married children and six grandchildren. He grew up in Northwest Florida and has lived in various states and beyond the US, where the Bushes served in a big city.

At its core, Rehoboth is a multicultural congregation with a shared commitment to the Bible. Pastor Troy has a deep affection for the Rehoboth congregation, and he is leading them in honestly inviting people to follow Jesus so that the church might grow and expand. Under his leadership, Rehoboth has partnered with church planters in the United States and throughout the world to launch new churches and participate in a variety of community missions.

Pastor Troy has a background in both urban church planting strategy and overseas missions. His doctorate is from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also taught urban ministry and missions. He has published numerous articles and authored multiple urban ministry and missions training tools. In addition, he has served as an adjunct professor and guest lecturer at other seminaries and universities. Most recently, he authored a three-part series of articles on the role slavery and convict leasing had in Georgia Baptist culture and the need to memorialize those who made such a big contribution while being enslaved and leased as prisoners.

What is the Core Belief of Rehoboth Baptist Church?

They believe in the following:

1. The Holy Bible

They believe that the Bible is God’s message to humanity. Despite being written by mortals, every word was miraculously led and safeguarded from human error by the Holy Spirit of God. God is the Bible’s major subject, while revealing His eternal plan to save and restore all creation is its primary story.

2. God

They believe that in addition to God being the Holy Creator, God continues to rule over the universe and all of humanity. Despite the fact that God transcends the bounds of any human category, He has chosen to reveal Himself as the Trinity, a group consisting of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Three Divine Persons forever coexist as the One Holy God.

3. Humanity

They believe that, since all humans share God’s likeness, every person has an inherent value. He created everyone to love Him and to find eternal pleasure in being with Him. Instead of reveling in Him, humans turned against Him and became hopelessly sinful.

4. Forgiveness and Salvation

Rehoboth believes that the real love for God stopped when humans rebelled, but God’s love for humans did not stop. The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is evidence of the great lengths to which the merciful God goes to rescue sinners. They believe that by only submitting to Him and trusting in Jesus Christ to save and liberate them from sin, humans can experience forgiveness and the full, abundant life God meant for everyone to enjoy.

5. Sharing the Good News and Training New Followers

Jesus entrusted His servants with the final mission before He ascended to heaven: to tell everyone about salvation through His death and resurrection. So they believe that anyone can be changed by this good news and commit to sharing the Good news of Jesus Christ, following His teachings, and living as examples for the rest of their lives.

6. Mercy and Justice

Christians are obligated to show love for their neighbors and community members because of God’s character and the grace of Jesus Christ. Rehoboth Baptist Church is against oppressive and harmful institutions, and because of this, they practice and seek kindness for all people. Their community members without families, such as orphans and widows, are of particular concern to them.

How is Rehoboth Baptist Church Serve the Community?

Rehoboth Baptist Church is not only focused on religious activities in the walls of the church. They are passionate about giving back to the community, and they do that in so many ways. Below are some of those ways:

1. LoveLOUD

Rehoboth has a rich history of serving the local community and showing Christian love to its neighbors. There are now 300,000 people within a ten-minute drive of their college, so there are plenty of chances to share the gospel. The same gospel that led to the establishment of Rehoboth still motivates them to be a place where people look for hope, discover it in Jesus, and then spread it to their neighbors.
