Pray for Someone Who Does Not Yet Know Jesus: A Journey to Faith and Salvation
Prayer is a powerful tool that Christians can use to communicate with God and seek His guidance, wisdom, and intervention in their lives and the lives of others. One of the most important ways we can use prayer is by interceding on behalf of those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior. Explore the ways you can help someone kickstart their journey to faith.
Why We Should Pray for Someone Who Does Not Know Jesus Yet
Other people’s journey to faith and salvation can be more complicated than ours. That is why, As followers of Christ, we must show compassion and kindness towards others. We are incredibly responsible for furthering His message by telling people still searching for Jesus’ saving grace.
One of the most powerful ways we can do this is through prayer. By praying for people in need, especially those who do not know Jesus, we are inviting God to work in their lives, opening their hearts and minds to the truth of the gospel.
In Matthew 9:38, Jesus tells his disciples to pray for more workers to go into the harvest field, which is a metaphor for sharing the message of the gospel with those who don’t know Jesus. Similarly, in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, we are encouraged to pray for all people, including those in positions of authority, so they may come to know the truth and be saved.
Prayer is also a powerful tool for spiritual warfare. In Ephesians 6:12, we are reminded that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil.
By praying for those who do not know Jesus, we are standing in the gap and interceding on their behalf, asking God to break down spiritual strongholds and barriers that may be keeping them from the truth.
Pray for the Person’s Openness
You can start by asking God to soften their heart and make them receptive to the message of the gospel. Pray that they will be open to hearing about who Jesus is and what He has done for them and that any preconceived notions or biases they may have will be replaced with a genuine desire to know the truth.
You can also pray that God will bring people into their life who will share the gospel with them in a way that they can understand and have the courage and wisdom to respond with openness and curiosity.
God will provide you with opportunities to share your own testimony and the love of Christ with these people. Make sure to do it in a way that is respectful and sensitive to where they are at in their spiritual journey.
Pray for Their Clarity
Ask God to reveal Himself to them in an understandable manner. Pray that the Holy Spirit will illuminate their mind and heart with the truth of the gospel and that any confusion or doubt they may have will be replaced with a clear understanding of who Jesus is and what He has done for them.
Ask God to guide them into the loving community of believers and provide people who can answer their questions while they learn more about Christianity. Pray that any doubts or challenges may be understood as they explore different perspectives on faith.
Ask God to Protect Them
Ask God to cover them with His protection and shield them from any spiritual attacks or deception that may be keeping them from coming to faith. Pray that God will place a hedge of protection around them and keep them safe from harm.
You can also pray that God will surround them with His angels, who will watch over them and keep them from stumbling or falling. Pray that any negative influences in their life will be removed and that positive, uplifting people will surround them, encouraging them to seek the truth.
Pray for Their Salvation
In John 3:16, it says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This verse makes it clear that salvation is for all believers.
Salvation is a gift from God, and as you pray for an unbeliever’s salvation, you are partnering with God in His mission to seek and save the lost.
As Christians, it is our responsibility to share the message of salvation with unbelievers and pray for their salvation. This is an act of love for our neighbors. Ask God to remove any spiritual blinders or barriers that may keep this person from seeing the truth. Pray that any lies they may have believed about God or Christianity will be replaced with a clear understanding of the gospel message.
