A City Church is a church in the city. A City Church is a non-denominational church; that is, it is not associated
with any of the national denominations of Christian Churches. The distinguishing aspect of a city church is its
classification as a church. A church is group of people who have chosen to organize themselves together as a local
church. The people are the church and they all share the common trait of being Christians. To be a Christian, a
person has at some point realized they were a sinner and in need of the forgiveness of God. This person has also
repented of their sins (expressed a commitment to try to stop sinning) and placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their
Savior and Lord. There are different ways to accomplish these couple of things. Some people become a Christian like
this by praying these several things in prayer to God. One advantage of becoming a Christian in this way is that a
person is already stepping out in faith to God, a necessary part of becoming a Christian, in this act of prayer, even
while they are verbalizing their commitments to God.
After a person has become a Christian, how do they become a part of a City Church? It is typical that the new
Christian seeks out an already existing church and visits one of the church activities. The usual church activity
that a new Christian visits is the main weekly worship service. The easiest way for a person to visit a church for
the first time is for them to be invited to the church by a friend or family member. After visiting a church for the
first time, a new Christian might want to visit other Christian churches or they might want to return to the City
Church for additional visits. Becoming a member of a church after a person becomes a Christian is a very important
part of insuring success in our Christian life. A local church such as a city church provides an important environment
for a new Christian to grow in their Christian life. A church provides a place for a Christian to serve other people,
to worship God with other people, to learn about God from other people, to pray with and for other people, and a place
to learn about telling other people about God.
How important are the people in a City Church? As stated earlier, the people are the church. But it is more than that.
We people do not live this life in isolation. Practically all the fundamental things we know in the life, have been taught
to us by other people: first our parents and family members, then later our teachers and co-workers and friends. We learn
about God this same way. By far most of us learned about God and his love for us from someone else. God has chosen those of
us in his family who are still alive on this earth to carry on his work. We are to tell the whole world about God and his salvation.
We do this through our relationships with other people.
