Join us in this Christmas season as we celebrate our Savior's birth. We hope you find that Emmanuel is a place where you can: Connect with others, Discover how to experience life through Jesus, and Impact the world around you. I invite you to explore our website and then contact us with your questions. You are invited to join us for worship and to join the small group Bible study on Sunday.
Emmanuel means, God with us. This was the prayer of seventy-eight (78) persons who were founders of the newly organized Southern Baptist Church on April 21, 1941. The church, established as Ingleside Baptist Church, was named Emmanuel. The first pastor was the Rev. Paul Starnes.
The Boxcar Church was an affectionate name given to the congregation because the first building was a railroad car donated by KCS Railroad in 1941. During the fifty-eight years as a church, Emmanuel Church has been located in five different communities: Roberts St., Tate St., Jewella Road, and Buncombe Rd. Bill Stowell, our pastor, came to Emmanuel in August 1959. Bro. Bill led us in 1969 to relocate to twenty-five acres of land at 5850 Buncombe Road, our present location. After a year of meeting in Jewell School, the new location and building came to be like the promised landto the congregation. The first multi-purpose building was completed in September, 1969. The beautiful sanctuary was built in 1976 with an education building in 1984.
Many wonderful years of service, evangelism, preaching, and discipleship, has been a part of Emmanuel. We invited our Lord into our midst on that first Sunday, and God has been with us ever since!
